Dumb scripting languages

I've traded one dumb scripting language for another. Why must companies who make products with their own scripting languages make them such a pain to use.

Why not just supply COM objects so that it will be scriptable from your favorite ActiveX-enabled scripting language (vbscript, jscript, activeperl, activepython, etc)
