Dumb scripting languages
I've traded one dumb scripting language for another. Why must companies who make products with their own scripting languages make them such a pain to use.
Blah.

New Apple ads
Here's some of the Apple ads for the new version of their OS. I thought they were pretty funny.
(edit)
Since the page I was referring to no longer exists and a quick attempt to find them again has proved futile, I'll post what the ads said. The posters were black with a picture of a CD on it with a somewhat faded tiger print on the cd. There were 4 versions of the poster (that I saw), each with a different phrase at the top.
- Introducing Longhorn.
- Redmond, start your photocopiers.
- Redmond we have a problem.
- This should keep Redmond busy.[0]
Sorry the link broke, hopefully this will appease you.

<---- Lookie!!!
I decided to put an "About Me" section like Froyd. Just in case you didn't notice I thought I'd draw attention to it. That is all.

It's dead Jim
My work desktop died on me today..well, sorta. I brought it into IT. Fortunately, I still can get work done. ::sigh:: Hopefully I should get it back soon.

The thing with the guy in the place
So that thing that I had potentially going for me in Indiana. I heard back this morning. No love.

Yahoo vs. Gmail
I have a mail account that I use when I sign up for stuff online through Yahoo!. I have had it for some time and I use it when I want to get stuff but really don't want to use my CS account because of all the spam.
Thanks to someone I now have a Gmail account. I feel so cool having it, even though I have like no messages there. I like the way it does conversations back and forth. It's very cool. I'd almost say it's tre cool.
Recently, Yahoo buffed up their free mail service by upgrading storage from 4MB to 100MB in an effort to compete with Gmail[0]. It also lets you do other things like have a calendar and notes. I have to admit, that I really dig the calendar thing. It has a item where you can add people's birthdays into it and it'll remind you before that day comes. For that feature alone, I very much dig it.
I know that Gmail is still in beta, so they might add cool stuff like calendars and such.
Basically, I like features of both, and I don't want to have 2 email addresses that I use for throwaway stuff. I guess I'll just wait til Gmail goes public until I decide.
[0] I assume.

The weekend
I was home for this weekend. I had a pretty good time even though I got nowhere near the amount of sleep that I need[0]. This was the weekend of the family badminton tournament of d00m. You laugh, but it's ruthless as hell. There is no shame in picking on the weak ones in our tournament. I had a pretty good time and made it to the final match. Unfortunately, I had to play again both of my brothers and they are both pretty good. So I didn't win this year, but there's always next year.
I also took a bump last night at the airport. Basically, I agreed to take a flight this morning instead of last night and got a free roundtrip ticket in return. Not sure what/when it is going to be used, but it's nice having it because flights are expensive. As such, I got into work later than usual today, which isn't that bad, I'll just work late tonight. I called someone in my group[1] to let them know the story, just in case someone was looking for me.
After I got home from the airport last night I played some more badminton, which included a couple of 1v1 games with my brothers. I beat Matt 11-9, but lost to Stanley 13-11. Bad thing was that in the game against Stanley, I hurt my knee. I was running to get to a shot, slid on the wet grass, hit the birdie, but then bent my knee in a way it didn't approve. I was on the ground for a couple minutes, but got up and felt ok. It still hurts a little bit, but I'm tough like that. =) It's scary that badminton is more dangerous for my knee than ultimate frisbee.

2 Quickies
1) Somebody stole my laundry basket. Yes, somebody stole my laundry basket while I was doing laundry tonight. I typically leave it down there when I do laundry, as I need it before and after the laundry process. However, when I went to retrieve my laundry after it had been through the dryer, the basket was gone. Who steals a laundry basket???? ::sigh::
2) I won at poker tonight. I won about $15 in fact. Was a good night and I played well.
I guess I can use that $15 to buy myself a new laundry basket. One with a lock...

Physical Therapy 100% (er, 99.999%)
Yesterday was my last session of physical therapy, well not really, I have another session in a month as just a sort of check-up to see how my leg is doing. All and all, I am very pleased with my progress. I still have some ligament pain from where I tore my MCL, but apparantly it take 6-12 months for a ligament tear to heal. So I have at least a month to go. Speaking of which, 5 months ago today is when I broke my leg...odd.

Gamefest 2k4
I had a great time at gamefest. A huge thanks to everyone who organized and for Jerry and Elizabeth who opened their house to a bunch of gamers and high energy bills. =) As Dave already mentioned, Quake3, Warcraft3 and Raven Shield were the games of the weekend. Towards the end, we were having a lot of fun with some tower defense-type maps in WarCraft3. Mental note to self: get more tower defense maps for next year's gamefest.
We played some 004 vs the world at Warcraft3, and a couple rounds of Quake3. Dave owned at dm17 (as to be expected), but we played a 1v1 at tourney3 and I squeeked a victory by him 20-17.
On the more physical note, we also played a game of Ultimate Frisbee. I was a tad concerned, considering that my leg isn't 100% yet, but after (and during) the game my leg/knee didn't give me any problems, and I was pushing myself pretty hard. You see, I forget that I am injured and do things that one might call "unintelligent". But on the bright side, nothing bad happened. =) Long story short, I played an intense game of ultimate and my leg felt great.
Unfortunately, weekends have to end and I left Sunday morning. It was a great time and I am really glad that I went.

Stanley Cup
Tamba Bay won the Stanley Cup last night. It was a pretty good game. The action was fast and physical. In my opinion, there were 2 calls that were somewhat questionable, one against Tampa (which resulted in Calgary's only goal) and 1 against Calgary (in the last minute of the game which effectively killed any chance of Calgary coming back). The final score was 2-1. I made a bet with Tim from Finisar. He owes me a drink now. =)

Annoying sense tingling....
There's a printer at work that when it is printing proceeds to emit a very high-pitched hecka-annoying noise. What really sucks is when someone decides that they need to print a whole lot of stuff. Ugg. Chalk up another reason for listening to music at work.

Gamefest soon
I am leaving a week from today to go to Gamefest. I am really excited to see Dave, Nate and Jerry. We plan on doing some 004 vs the world games of WarCraft3. That should be a lot of fun.
We rarely see each other anymore, and even more rare is the time when all 4 of us are in the same location. It'll be a good time.

Weekend trip
I went home to Chicago this weekend. Saturday morning I drove down to Terre Haute for graduation at Rose. After the ceremony I hung around for a little bit, talked to a couple people and then drove back home. 8 hours of driving in one days _sucks_, but I feel it was good that I went.
Saturday night I met Jerry and Elizabeth and 2 of Elizabeth's friends at Elizabeth's house in Elgin. We decided to go to the gambling boats[0] and I ended up winning $90. It's like the luck of the Irish, what can I say? =) I only played Caribbean Stud poker for the night as the blackjack tables were $25 minimum bets. No thanks. I was the only one that won[1], so as a celebration, I treated everyone to White Castle. I finally got home that night around 2:30am, and had been up since 5:30am[2]. I crashed pretty hard when I got home, but was surprisingly awake until I got home.
I slept in on Sunday, then went to a family graduation party for a little while. I have yet another computer to build for my family. I have until Father's Day weekend to build this one. I need to order the parts soon. Sunday night I went over to my friend Colin's house. I haven't seen him in like a year, and we used to be really close in high school. We ended up coming back to my parents' house and hanging out until like 5am.
Monday consisted of more sleeping in, helping my brothers and sisters with math and physics[3], playing catch with my cousins and getting on the plane to come back to CA.
And now I have to go to that work place again... =/
[0] Closest place to gamble in the Chicagoland area, they were about 2 miles from Elizabeth's parents house.
[1] Jerry watched me win, Elizabeth watched her friends lose about $20
[2] I had the red-eye flight from San Francisco into Chicago
[3] They have finals this week
