Music of the Week (7/27/04)
So I'm cheating and saying it went out yesterday even though it's the 28th. Sue me. =)
So here's a recap of exacly how these lists are populated. I have a smart playlist[0] which gives me the 25 songs with the highest play count that have been played within the last week. This may get some songs that I have no listened to in a while, but listened to in the past week once or twice. So this list isn't as pure as it could be. The only other solution is to reset the play count on all my songs every week, but I really don't want to do that. There are some repeats from last week, but I am just going to leave them in because I am lazy.
Lots of Dashboard Confessional this week. My younger brother recommeneded the Ataris song on the list and I like it a lot.
- A New Found Glory - All Downhill From Here - Catalyst
- The Ataris - The Saddest Song (Acoustic Version) - So Long, Astoria

[0] It's an iPod thing. You can tell it to make a playlist containing up to X songs which match criteria like "Most often played", "Least often played" or also matching fields in the tags. It's very cool.

A much better result
Hockey again tonight. It was a much better result than last week. We won 10-5. I played really well this week. I got 5 goals. =) I also decided to play a second game, which in hindsight was probably a bad idea. I hurt my knee a little bit in the second game.

More Hockey
So apparantly I am on 2 teams this season. I play on both Tuesdays and Sundays. I also might start playing pick-up hockey on Fridays as well. You can never have too much hockey I always say. =)
We won last night, a nice contrast from my loss the other night. I managed 2 goals and am feeling a lot better on the ice. The knee felt ok, I fell on it a couple times and had a couple collisions and that didn't make it feel too happy, but I took some ibeuprofin last night and it's feeling fine today. I only played 1 game last night, mostly because my knee wasn't feeling 100% and I didn't want to push it.
As a side note, there isn't a lot open in the way of food at 1:30am on a Sunday night / Monday morning.

You Lose, Continue?
We lost tonight 6-3. Blah. I am so tired out there, I don't remember being this tired after a hockey game. Either that means (a) I really skated hard and worked my ass of tonight or (b) I need to get back into "hockey shape". I'm hoping it is (a), but fear that it is (b). I managed a goal tonight, so I guess I didn't completely suck. That is all.

Round 2: Fight!
Ok, I have hockey tonight and this time it's for real. The new season starts tonight and I have a game. I got my stick cut down[0] and my stuff cleaned, although I didn't get my skates sharpened like I would have liked to. Guess I am just going to have to do without.
I am the captain of my team this season, which basically doesn't mean a whole lot. I have some administrative duties to attend to, but that's about it. I'd almost like to set up a system to play with, but I'm not sure everyone would like that. I'll just have to wait and see.
[0] It was too long so I brought it to the place I got it so they could cut it down a couple inches.

Concert
My buddy John invited me to go to a concert last night at Shoreline Amphitheater. The bands that were playing were Maroon 5 and John Mayer. I must say that I liked the show that Maroon 5 put on much more than I liked John Mayer's set. I had heard before that John Mayer is somewhat arrogant, and watching his set somewhat reinforced that. I will give him that he is a phenomenal guitar player, probably one of the best I have ever seen, but when he does several 10+ minute guitar solos song after song, it gets somewhat boring. Oh well.
(edit)
I forgot to mention. One of the coolest parts of the show was when Maroon 5 did a cover of Highway to Hell by AC/DC. Very cool. I went out and bought the Maroon 5 cd Songs About Jane. I like what I have heard so far.

Hockey results
I played 2 games last night, and I must say that I am feeling very good. My knee isn't giving me any problems. Although there were some moments last night where I would do something and I would get some knee pain[0], but it went away quickly. I am not feeling any after effects of playing last night. I also managed to score 2 goals. Guess I didn't have _that_ many saved up after all. =)
[0] I would drop on my knees to try to block a shot and my bad knee would let me know that it didn't like that. But it's not like I am thinking when I do something like that, it's just a reflex to try to block the shot.

Somewhat nervous
I am playing hockey tonight. Not just skating around and trying to determine if my leg sucks, I am actually playing a hockey game tonight. It's good because I am really excited. I haven't played in so long and I really miss playing. On the other hand, I am nervous and anxious because I don't want to hurt my knee. My doctor gave me the "thumbs up" to play, so I guess I should be ok. I just know when I am out on that ice I am _not_ going to play cautiously at all. I just hope I don't do anything really stupid tonight and potentially screw up my leg even more. Hopefully I will come home tonight in one piece.
I did get a new hockey stick for the occasion though, and I'd like to see how I like it. I should have a bunch of potential goals saved up in the last 6 months[0], so I'd like a scoring frenzy to occur for me if possible. =)
[0] I just realized that it's been _6_ months (just about) since I broke my leg. That's a long time...

Poker + Monk + Stargate + Crappy AI = Purple Dinosaur
My Tivo suggested "Barney and Friends" to me today. There are no words to describe the quandry that I am in. It is now deleted and has 3 "thumbs down".

Link o' the Day
I remember that Dave and I wanted to be able to sing the entire song. We could just never remember the lyrics. Well here they are.

Foosball at work
When your manager asks you to go play foosball, is that considered a 1-on-1 meeting?

Scanning old pics
I found some pictures from a while ago and wanted to scan them and put them up. It's from my little skydiving adventure when I was an intern.

Movie Recommendation
Based on my friend's recommendation, I rented Shade last night. Let me say, this movie kicked all sorts of a**. Imagine a cross of Rounders and Confidence and throw in some extra awesome. Now, I heartily recommend that you all rent it. Personally, I'm going to go buy the movie. On your way.

Oh happy day
We now have Sun Chips in the Engineering vending machine. It's a good day.
All I need now is Vanilla Coke at work and my life will be complete. Well, not really, but definately closer than it is now. =)

Nice mini-vacation
I was home for the 4th of July weekend. I had both Friday and Monday off, so it was a nice little mini-vacation. Fortunately there wasn't a whole lot to do around the house in Chicago this weekend[0] so I was actually able to relax and such. We had a small party at my uncle's this weekend. Some 16" softball and badminton was played. Just a good time and no running around like crazy people. I got back somewhat early (8:30pm) last night, which is better than my usual 11:30pm. Mr. and Mrs. Schondy picked me up from the airport and we went out to dinner. Then I came home, unpacked, cleaned a little and watched some tv. Bed followed shortly thereafter. Good time and lots of sleep.
[0] Typically it's just frantic all weekend whenever I am home

Spiderman 2
I went and saw Spider-man 2 tonight with a couple friends. I must agree with Nagi that it is made of 100% awesome. All in all an excellent movie. I won't put any spoiler information here, because you all should go and see it for yourselves.
Go ahead. What are you waiting for? Go now!!! =)
Anyways, I went to a 12:20am showing[0], hence the really late (or is it early) timestamp on this entry. You see, I just got home. Now some of you are saying, "Mikey, why'd you go see a 12:20am movie when you have to work tomorrow? Are you stupid or something?" My response: Yes I am. But every once in a while it's refreshing to do something stupid[1]. You know it's a bad idea, but it keeps you young inside...or something. I dunno, just kinda nice and healthy to do something dumb every so often. I would like to advise my readers (all 4 of you), that doing something dumb is sometimes healthy...doing something _really_dumb_ can be unhealthy. There's my disclaimer, now you can't blame me and tell the judge that I made you do it. Neener neener neener.
Well I think I am going to get some sleep now before work....um...today...ugg. =) But the movie was well worth it. I highly recommend.
[0] We played poker tonight, so it had to be after that.
[1] Hitting trees nonwithstanding...
