Weekend Wedding
So I arrive in Chicago at 4:30am on Friday 8/27. I then did not proceed to sleep until 2am on Saturday 8/28. Needless to say, I was really frickin tired. My Uncle Greg (step-dad's brother) got married on Friday and it was a whole day thing. We left the house at 6:15am to go play golf. This included my brothers, and a lot of the bride/groom's brothers. I have come to the conclusion that I am terrible at golf. I mean, like really bad. It's a good thing we capped the number of strokes per hole at 10, because otherwise it would have been really ugly. After that, we got some lunch. It was actually free, because the waiter had spill about 2 glasses of coke on me as he was bringing the drinks, so the manager gave us our lunch for free. Then came the ceremony, which was outside. It was a very nice ceremony, but it was out in the sun and it was about 80+ degrees out. Oh, did I mention I was in a full tuxedo. This made it quite uncomfortable at times, but no biggie. The ceremony was beautiful and the reception was a ton of fun. I got my groove on, as much as my whiteness would let me. It started winding down around 1am, and after that I helped do some clean-up and then headed home.
Fortunately I got to sleep in until noon on Saturday. This was much needed.

Equilibrium
I finally got around to seeing Equilibrium a couple weeks ago and haven't remembered to post about it. Props to Nate for making me see it. Such an awesome movie. If you haven't seen it, I heartily recommend that you check this film out. My brother told me about Ultraviolet. It was written and directed by the same guy as Equilibrium. It stars Milla Jovovich and based simply upon how badass Equilibrium was, I'll go see this in a heartbeat.
And simply based on the number of links in this post, it's proof positive that IMDB is one of the most useful websites in existence.

Peeping Jon
So I'm at hockey last night (after the game specifically), and I am talkin with a friend of mine after the game. Now, I realize that my blog is viewable to the entire world, and one could probably easy Google for it, but I was still taken slightly aback when he said that he read it. I guess I just didn't expect people that I knew out here to read my blog. I mean, this has happened several times, so it's not like it was new or something.
In any case, his response was something along the lines of "Man, you're a geek". To which I replied, "Well, yeah." Funny how people don't pick up on that right away. =)

Yup, It's Monday
Stupid week having to start, and just as I was starting to relax this weekend. Oh well. Well, it's kinda a short week for me. I am taking Friday off and am going to be in Chicago[0]. My uncle is getting married on Friday, so I am going to be going home for that. Should be a good time. Plus my brothers and I will hang out, probably play some poker and other stuff.
We won our hockey game last night....I think. I say that because we were winning by at least 2 by the end of the 2nd period and the scorekeeper reset the score when the 3rd period started (Don't ask me why). The score on the board after the 3rd period was 4-2 with us losing. So, I think we won, because I think we were up by 3 or 4 at the end of the second. I think I got a couple goals and a couple assists, so not a bad game for me. My shoulder still hurts a little, but the pain isn't too bad. Hockey players are tough. =)
I have another game tomorrow. I have to admit, I really like having hockey 2 days a week. It's a lot of fun to actually get to play that often. And I may start doing Friday morning skate-n-shoot with my buddy Paul. It's like 2 hours of shooting around/skating/scrimmage for like $8. Definately worth it. I am hoping to use part of that icetime to work on my skating skills that I haven't had the chance to just work on since I recovered from the injury.
Still no word on my new snowboard. =( The shop hasn't called me yet to let me know if they got it in. It's ok though, I have a couple months before I'll need it. I wanna go snowboarding so much this winter. I miss it.

Lack of a MotW this week
As my faithful reader has probably noticed by now, I did not post a Music of the Week this week. This was intended. I think I am going to post my list every other week so there will actually be quasi-significant changes from posting to posting. Of course the every other week thing will probably screw me up at some point.

Geek Link
There's a very cool web site out there that has a lot of cool little Windows utilities. Like being able to execute processes remotely on other windows boxes. Just thought some of you might find it interesting.

Topics of Bloggage
While writing that last blog entry, I started wondering about the limited number of topics that I blog about lately. Let's see, there's (a) hockey, (b) snowboarding, (c) injuries, (d) trips to see family, (e) disdain for moronic scripting languages, (f) random life events. Ok, so there are more than I thought, but for a second I wondered if I posted anything but hockey/injury stories.
I guess I'll have to get some new material. =/

Back on the horse
I talked to my step-dad this weekend about my shoulder. He said it should be fine, I probably just pulled something. As long as I don't slam into the boards anytime soon I should be fine. My shoulder kinda hurts when I stress it, but is always fine afterwards, kinda like how my knee was when I first started playing again. I can handle that. I week off of hockey was enough for me anywho. =)

Landing
I have to post about this. Last night I got home from Chicago. When the pilot landed the plane, I can describe the landing as nothing but "perfect". There was no slam, no jitter, just remarkably smooth. I wasn't sitting in the window, so I couldn't see the ground, but I didn't even know we were on the ground until they reversed the engines. Very cool, imho.

Gas Prices
I probably shouldn't be happy that gas is _only_ $1.959/gallon, but I am. And that's for regular 87 octane.

Home
I am leaving later today for Chicago. I'm taking tomorrow off and spending a couple days with my family. Should be a good time. My brothers are under the impression that they can beat me at Doom 3. So, some beatdowns are planned while at home. I am also going shopping for a new snowboard. I have outgrown mine and need a more responsive board so that I can avoid trees in the future. Because of stupid flash, I can't throw up the link directly to the board, but it can be found at Ride's site. It's the Prophet 156cm. Not only does it look awesome, but it is a very sweet board as well. I am looking forward to the coming snow season, since the last one was pretty non-existant for me.

Music of the Week (8/10/04)
According to someone that is going to remain nameless.. ::cough:: Angel ::cough::, I wasn't going to be posting my music of the week anymore. But I showed you. =P Probably just posting to prove you wrong was enough for me, but in all seriousness, I really do enjoy posting the stuff I listen to. I think I need to mix it up a bit at work though. Maybe some Underworld or Global Underground.
I am somewhat hesitant to put the words 'Avril Lavigne' on my blog after the events on Dave and Mel's blog, but I guess I'll just have to view this as an experiment. Hopefully I don't get too many irrelivant hits.
- A New Found Glory - All Downhill From Here - Catalyst
- The Ataris - The Saddest Song (Acoustic Version) [Hidden Track] - So Long Astoria
- Avril Lavigne - He Wasn't - Live Acoustic EP
- Dashboard Confessional - For You To Notice... - So Impossible EP
- Dashboard Confessional - Hands Down - So Impossible EP
- Dashboard Confessional - Vindicated - Spider-Man 2
- Eve 6 - Anytime - Out Cold
- Hoobastank - Crawling In The Dark - Hoobastank
- Josh Kelley - Amazing - MIXclusives: Volume Four
- Linkin Park - Numb - Meteora
- Lucky Boys Confusion - Broken - Commitment
- Lucky Boys Confusion - Something To Believe - Commitment
- Maroon 5 - Harder To Breathe - Songs About Jane
- Maroon 5 - This Love - Songs About Jane
- Oasis - Wonderwall - (What's The Story) Morning Glory?
- The Offspring - Staring At The Sun - Americana
- The Offspring - The Kids Aren't Alright - Americana
- The Offspring - Head Around You - Splinter
- Remy Zero - Save Me - Smallville - The Talon Mix
- Sarah McLachlan - Fallen - MIXclusives: Volume Four
- Smile Empty Soul - With This Knife - Smile Empty Soul
- Something Corporate - Cavanaugh Park - Leaving Through The Window
- Thrice - Stare At The Sun - The Artist in the Ambulance
- Yellowcard - Ocean Avenue - Ocean Avenue
- Yellowcard - Gifts And Curses - Spider-Man 2
So now I'm wondering about the order of the songs here. I have been doing the first one[0] for the past 2 posts, but am considering switching to option #2 for the remainder. This way it's easier to see the tracks that belong on the same CD together. Anywho, which of these should I go with:
- Artist - Track - Album
- Artist - Album - Track

Not playing tonight
I have a hockey game tonight, but I am not going to play on account of my shoulder. It's a lot better than it was last week, but is still bothering me enough where I don't want to push it and play. In all likelyhood, I wouldn't have played tonight even if it felt 100%.
Which means I'll have _plenty_ of time to go home and post the top 25 music of the week.

Weekend schtuff
I had a fairly eventful weekend, well at least for me. Friday night consisted of some Warcraft III with some people from work over at my apartment. I think it's like the 2nd or 3rd time I have had non-family company over at my place since I moved in there. Saturday afternoon was a BBQ in Fremont with some people from work. I played some frisbee and volleyball. The volleyball was decidedly a bad idea and hurt my shoulder a little bit. It's better, but it's still not 100%. Saturday night I had dinner with the Schony's and the Nelsons. Afterwards we played some poker while having some drinks. It'd been the first time in a long time that I had actually had something to drink. I tried this one shot called an "Oatmeal Cookie" and damn was it good. I mean, it actually tasted like an oatmeal cookie. Gonna have to ask what's in it, or I could just look it up online.
Sunday consisted of laying around the house and cleaning up some. I wanted to get some laundry done, but didn't get the chance. I'll just have to do some tonight.

Movie Review -- The Bourne Supremacy
I saw The Bourne Supremacy last night. It was pretty good. I think that I liked the first one better overall, but this one definately had its strong points. I'm not going to give anything away, but the first 15 minutes of the movie came very unexpected things. Very good, I give it a 8/10.

2 jokes for the day
Hopefully they won't offend anyone too bad. =)
- A college professor, an avowed atheist, was teaching his class. He shocked several of his students when he flatly stated he was going to prove there is no God. Addressing the ceiling he shouted: "God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform. I'll give you 15 minutes!"
The lecture room fell silent. You could have heard a pin fall. Ten minutes went by. Again he taunted God, saying, "Here I am, God. I'm still waiting."
His count-down got down to the last couple of minutes when a Marine, just released from active duty and newly registered in the class, walked up to the professor, hit him full force in the face, and sent him flying ass over teacups. The professor was out cold!
At first the students were shocked and babbled in confusion. The young Marine took a seat in the front row and sat silent. The class fell silent... waiting. Eventually, the professor came to, shaken. When the professor regained his senses and could speak he asked: "What's the matter with you? Why did you do that?"
"God was busy. He sent me."
- You're walking down a deserted street with your spouse and two small children. Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a huge knife comes around the corner and locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, raises his knife, and charges. You're carrying a Smith & Wesson and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?
Democrat's Answer:
Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! Does the man look poor or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack? Could we run away? What does my wife think? What about the kids? Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand? What does the law say about this situation? Does the gun have an appropriate safety built into it? Why am I carrying a loaded gun and what kind of message does this send to society and my children? Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me? Does he definitely want to kill me or would he just be content to wound me? If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends for a few days to try to come to a conclusion.
Republican's Answer:BANG!
Texan Answer:
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click...click...click

Boards: 2 Michael: 0
I am noticing a recurring theme with me and inanimate objects. I lose. I hit the boards tonight with my right shoulder during my game. Long story short, it really hurts. But I can move it, it's just painful to do so. It's not broken or anything, and I am sure that I will be ok. If it really bothers me in the morning, I will get it checked out by a doctor.
I really don't feel like posting my top 25 music this week, but it will return next week. It probably hasn't changed much anyways.

Movie Review -- I, Robot
I finally got around to seeing I, Robot this weekend. It was a very cool movie. I never read Asimov, so I can't say how loyal it was to the books. The movie was very enjoyable and very cool. It got a little Hollywood at some points[0], but nothing that made me grimmace. I give it a 8.5 out of 10.
