The end of MT???

Well, I just cleared about 1000 spam comments from my blog. So annoying. I am getting highly annoyed about this. I really do have to install MT-close like dave has, although he had a recent flurry of spam posts on his blog as well.

I wonder if there is a better system out there than MT. A quick search on Google provided me with the following link. It looks similar to the software that Dave uses for the forum. I may go there eventually, but for now I want to at least give MT another week or so with MT-close installed and see how much spam I get. Then I may go to the other system and see how it works.

Stupid spammers. Quick annoying me!!!!

(edit: put the /blog/ in the link to dave...as a side note, there have been 4 spam comments in the last 5 minutes...sigh)

Comments

for what it's worth, even the "flurry" of spam on my blog was only ~15 spams. And those are rare now. Combining mt-close with mt-blacklist keeps me down below 10 spams a week.

I find that daily cleansing is the biggest thing you can do. If you let a spam sit, the spammers will know that you are vulnerable and will hit you repeatedly.

Best solution? Have your blog hosted at notblog.com, where someone else can de-spam it for you. :P

Yeah, I am basically going to close all posts that aren't on the first page for comments. I don't think someone has ever posted a comment on something months back (that was valid) so I probably won't annoy anyone with this policy.

I rarely see front page spam anyways. Hopefully this will keep me sane, but I just find it annoying that I have to do daily maintainence on my blog so that script kitties can't spam me.
