Why Indianapolis Is Not a Major City

Over 2 weeks ago, a tornado hit downtown Indianapolis causing some damage to a single building. Basically some of the glass windows and a minimal part of the structure were blown off and fell to the ground. As of yesterday, some of the roads surrounding that building were _still_ closed off to street traffic.

Come on now...there is no reason or excuse that you should have to block off several streets for that length of time for the minimal damage that was caused. And it's right downtown too. I am sure that I'm a bit of a Chicago snob, thinking that it's the best city ever. Well, in my opinion, if you closed off major streets downtown for several weeks for nothing less than nuclear war, Chicago would riot.

In closing, Indianapolis, figure this out. Open the streets back up. It can't be that hard.

Are you sure that the building isn't structurally damaged, or that it's certain that more glass won't fall? Granted, it's been a while since the building was damaged, but it may take time to verify what damage actually took place, aquire the materials to fix it, etc.

There may in fact be more damage than I realize and I'm perfectly willing to admit that.

However, it shouldn't take more than a couple days to figure out how structurally sound the building is. Hire more engineers if you must. If you can't get the parts for weeks, re-open the streets in the meantime.

All I'm saying is that it is being handled (imo) very piss-poor and there is no reason that the streets should be closed for 2+ weeks straight.

So when is this riot going down? Are we all invited?

They announced the building was structurally sound days after the tornado came through. The streets should definitely have been reopened by now.

I’ll butt out, now. Have a great day!

That's all I'm saying.

Yesterday was the first day since it got hit that the streets re-opened. Just took too long in my opinion, and I'm sure anybody's opinion who had to drive downtown to go to work.
