Some hockey games and a great idea
I recently (3 weeks ago) started playing hockey again in Indianapolis.
First game back....lots of rust. I was very much out of shape. Skates weren't sharpened well[0], my stick was too long and I played like utter shite. We lost the game, not having to do anything with my superbly crappy play.
Second game back, less rust. Started to get my feel back for skating/being on the ice. Managed 1 goal and 2 assists. It should be noted that said goal was scored off my head. Yes, somehow I got a header in ice hockey. I wish that I could claim that I was actually intending the goal as it was scored, however what really happened was that a deflection hit off the goalie and then my mask and _then_ found its way into the net. Definitely a first for me. We lost the game though.
I went to go get my skates sharpened before the 3rd game. Finally ended up playing fairly well. Drew a good penalty. Took a good penalty. Good penalty is defined as taking a penalty to prevent a good scoring opportunity by the other team. My team didn't let the other team score when we were shorthanded, so I definitely felt that it was a penalty worth taking. Ended up winning the game, but I didn't get any points. Regardless, I played significantly better than the previous week.
So, in these past 3 weeks, I had what I consider to be a "great" idea. Said idea...is adult kickball. A nice throwback to the days of elementary school. I thought (as well did my co-workers) that said idea was really good. Little did we know that somebody else thought of this long before it ever graced my brain. Crap. So much for being original, right?
At least if I ever started a kickball league, it wouldn't be a $400 entry fee[1] for a team and alcohol would be strictly banned from games. Not that I'm a lush, but it just seems like the kind of activity to be enjoyed by a group of people and a beer or two afterwards.
[0] The guy at the rink downtown did a terrible job. Just awful. Never getting my skates sharpened there again.
[1] There's a league in Indianapolis, but that's what the entry fee is for a team. For KICKBALL. I'm dead serious.

Sports this week
We lost our hockey game 9-8 on Tuesday night. I scored 4 goals. The thing that pisses me off is that I had a chance to score with like 2 seconds left on the clock and I f@%&ed it up. ::sigh::
Last night I played my first softball game with my company team. We won 30-12, by the slaughter rule. I played alright, I made a couple of OK plays and got 2 base hits. I suck, but I hope to improve. Unfortunately, it was a late game (10:10pm) and we started about 40-50 minutes late. The humorous part came in about the 4th inning when the sprinklers for the field went on. Guess they didn't expect anyone to still be playing.
